The Representation Of The Human Body Through Art

0

Human body are presented in the art world in a way where is different based on what the artist want to present or what the culture deemed appropriate. When you look at how the body is presented throughout Ancient Korea, South and Southeast Asia, Ancient China, and Ancient Japan, you see that we have changed the way we present our bodies in art. Going back to the beginning and look at the artifact known as the Venus of Willendorf, this curved artifact represents a woman. What is the meaning of artifact? “An artifact is any object created by humankind regardless of the “skill” of its creator or the absence of “beauty”(Khan Academy).

Looking at Venus of Willendorf and compare her to the painting of Han era Dahuting tomb, you can see the differences and similarities. The Venus of Willendorf is simple and in modern era this is imperfect. The reason I brought Venus of Willendorf up is to show how Ancient Chine and other countries in the same era went on and improve upon what they had before. The Venus of Willendorf is almost like our measuring stick on what we can put out there to represent the body.

The life-size army and the Che Guevara drawing is another perfect example of how modern presentation of the body is not different from Ancient Chine or that era. Both images look like that prson is frozen in time and they look like they may get up and walk.
